Our Impact

Homelessness in Macomb County is no longer a hidden issue—it’s an escalating public crisis that touches every part of our community. What was once seen as a temporary challenge has grown into a full-blown housing emergency, fueled by rising rents, stagnant wages, and a severe shortage of affordable homes. Families, veterans, and working people are finding themselves without a place to live, often for the first time. This is not a problem that can be solved by one agency or one act of charity—it requires all of us. The numbers are rising, and so must our response.

More Than 600 Lives Lifted Each Year

Every number represents a person rebuilding their life with dignity.

Each year, MCREST provides emergency shelter, case management, meals, and housing assistance to more than 600 individuals—men, women, and children from every corner of Macomb County. Behind every guest served is a unique story of resilience and hope. From the moment someone enters our doors to the day they move into permanent housing, our staff walk alongside them, helping them rebuild their confidence and stability step by step.

Over 65,000 Meals Served Annually

Nourishment for the body, strength for the journey.

Each guest receives three healthy meals a day, served with care by staff and volunteers who understand that food is often the first step toward healing. That’s more than 1,800 meals every week, or roughly 65,000 meals a year—a testament to the generosity of our community partners, donors, and local restaurants. Across MCREST’s 35-year history, that adds up to over 2 million meals served, ensuring that no one in our care goes hungry.

56% of Guests Leave with Newfound Stability

Shelter is just the beginning—our goal is lasting change.

More than half of the individuals who complete MCREST’s programs move on to stable housing, employment, or family reunification. With comprehensive case management, we help each guest overcome the barriers that led to homelessness—whether it’s securing ID documents, finding steady work, addressing health concerns, or navigating the rental market. Stability isn’t an endpoint; it’s the start of a new chapter.

352 Guests Served in the First Six Months of 2025 Alone

A growing need—and a growing response.

From January through June 2025, MCREST has already provided care for 352 individuals, including 52 children. Among our guests, 51% are women, 20% are chronically homeless, and nearly half live with a diagnosed mental health condition. These numbers reflect not just need, but the trust the community places in MCREST to deliver life-saving help with compassion and professionalism.

Nearly 9,000 Individuals Served Since Our Founding

A legacy of compassion, built one person at a time.

Since opening our doors in 1988, MCREST has helped an estimated 9,000 men, women, and children find shelter, stability, and a path toward independence. What began as a small, rotating church network has grown into Macomb County’s leading homeless service agency—operating year-round, every day, for over three decades. Each life changed represents the collective power of volunteers, churches, and donors working together to lift others up.

100% of Our Guests Receive Case Management and Supportive Services

Because no one should have to rebuild their life alone.

Every guest at MCREST is paired with a dedicated case manager who helps them navigate the complex path out of homelessness. From securing transportation and healthcare to reconnecting with family or applying for housing, our staff ensure that every person has the tools and support they need to succeed. Compassion here isn’t just offered—it’s lived out daily.

A Community United in Compassion

The true measure of our impact isn’t in numbers—it’s in lives changed.
MCREST’s mission thrives because of the unity and generosity of Macomb County. Each dollar donated, each meal prepared, and each volunteer hour contributes directly to helping someone find their way home. Together, we’ve built more than a shelter—we’ve built a community where compassion is the foundation and recovery is possible for everyone.
