Returning Home Campaign meets goal, ensuring that MCREST will continue to provide critical support services
April 1, 2022

Thanks to you, MCREST’s year-end Returning Home Campaign met and exceeded our goal of raising $200,000, ensuring that our not-for-profit will continue to provide critical support services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Thanks to you, more Macomb County children and families will return home.

MCREST launched our year-end Returning Home campaign with a $25,000 matching donation from Weingartz to continue to meet the increasing need for our emergency shelter services and permanent housing support during these challenging times.

“Our church partners, sponsors, and each individual supporter committed, this holiday season, to making a return home possible for Macomb County individuals and families experiencing homelessness” said MCREST Executive Director April Fidler. “As a lifelong resident of Macomb County, I’m proud to live in such a deeply caring community.”

Residents’ donations were matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000, thanks to Weingartz’ s generosity.
MCREST has offered hope and help throughout the pandemic, sheltering a total of 467 people last year, including 117 children. Children represent more than one-quarter of those MCREST serves annually.

MCREST operated a temporary warming center last winter, and this winter, MCREST is caring for the same vulnerable population, feeding and sheltering an additional 130 individuals per month. In total, MCREST has provided nearly 800,000 nights of shelter to Macomb County’s homeless population during its history.

Over the years, MCREST’s support of homeless individuals has evolved to better serve the community. This includes the foundation of a Learning & Resource Center, which in its history has provided nearly 800 adults with educational opportunities and job-readiness and placement services and continues to help our guests secure stable employment in high-demand fields and make the transition to a stable lifestyle.
