Note:  Warming Center opened doors January through April in 2004 and we still had to turn away 925 people.  April is missing totals due to our move to our new location.  By averaging March and May months, we could assume that May had 49 persons turned away making the total for the year 1078 which is more than the previous year.  Also note the warmer month totals!

  • For 2001, we had to turn away 1100 people looking for shelter.
  • For 2002, we had to turn away 1470 people looking for shelter.
  • For 2003, we had to turn away 1143 people looking for shelter.
  • For 2004, we had to turn away 925 people looking for shelter – 183 of them were children!

Further breakdown of totals when information was available:

  • M = Macomb County Residents with ID
  • W = Wayne County Residents with ID
  • O = Oakland County Residents with ID
  • OT = Other
  • No ID = Seeking shelter - have no identification to residency
